THE CURRENT SITUATION FOR PROVIDERS
As they attempt to provide affordable, quality care for all, providers are thwarted by the capitalist mandate of their fellow stakeholders. Squeezed between rising costs and declining reimbursements, they are attempting to regain control of their fragile financial state so they can continue to improve the quality of care and patient satisfaction
Provider Issues:
-
rampant inefficiencies
-
rising costs on specialty/physician preference items
-
declining reimbursements
- largest product purchaser (physicians) doesn't pay for product

THE NCI VISION FOR PROVIDERS
Providers have the power to drive inefficiencies from the supply chain if they're willing to form a unified alliance with one another; develop universal product codes for all products/supplies, and develop effective, internal data tracking systems. Allies with accurate data, providers become an unstoppable force for change. Armed with information, they will demand and get more from manufacturers, distributors, and GPOs. They will also be able to provide the due diligence necessary to obtain payor reimbursements more accurately aligned with costs.
