| THE CURRENT SITUATION FOR CMS |
Responsible for payment of 50% of all claims for medical services, CMS is now the largest revenue source for hospitals/health systems, followed by large employers or insurance companies, depending on regional demographics.
CMS Issues: - 50 million Americans are currently without healthcare insurance
- Large employers view escalating healthcare costs as a threat to corporate America's ability to be competitive

| THE NCI VISION FOR CMS |
The time is fast-approaching for greater government intervention to deliver a national health plan that assures compensated care for patients and healthcare providers. A national health plan will better align incentives for all stakeholders and will permit providers more time to focus on eliminating inefficiencies and developing the most cost-effective care delivery models. To administer this plan, the government will recruit independent insurance companies and large employers to serve as third-party administrators, and to offer enhanced patient plans according to an individual's health/lifestyle and ability to pay. Of course, providing healthcare to all Americans doesn't come without a hefty cost; the next administration will likely be strapped with the very unpopular task of increasing taxes to cover the tab |
